Chief Accountant

Short Description

For our client, an international manufacturing company, we are looking for an experienced and independent professional to take ownership of the accounting function in the role of Chief Accountant.

• Location: Northern Serbia.
• The selected candidate will be responsible for managing the full accounting function of the company, ensuring compliance with Serbian accounting and tax regulations, preparing statutory reports for local authorities, and providing accurate and timely financial reporting to the Group headquarters.
• This is a key role for the factory, combining accounting, tax compliance, controlling, cost analysis, internal reporting and coordination with both local management and the central finance team.

Description

• Manage the full accounting process in accordance with Serbian legislation and company standards.
• Prepare monthly and annual financial statements.
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting to Serbian authorities, including tax, VAT, payroll-related and statutory reports.
• Prepare financial reports for the Group headquarters / central finance department.
• Supervise month-end and year-end closing activities.
• Manage VAT, corporate tax, payroll accounting and other statutory obligations.
• Monitor production costs, inventory, margins and cost allocation.
• Prepare controlling reports, budget follow-up, variance analysis and management reports.
• Support the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
• Cooperate with external auditors, tax advisors, banks and public institutions.
• Ensure proper internal controls and accounting procedures.

Requirements

• University degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field.
• Minimum 5–7 years of experience in accounting and finance.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial company is strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Serbian accounting, tax and payroll regulations.
• Experience with financial reporting to a foreign headquarters or Group finance team.
• Good understanding of controlling, budgeting, cost accounting and inventory valuation.
• Ability to work independently and take full ownership of the accounting function.
• Strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Experience with ERP/accounting software.
• Good knowledge of MS Excel.
• English language skills are required
